Surreal Animation

Posted: August 8, 2012 in Links, Masters Project

A masters project done at Teesside University. In this project surreal methods have been used to juxtapose the multiple 3d elements. It has a short melody on the background and sound effects on the foreground.  I like the ending when the animator builds tension in it. It has very good sound effects going on with the cogs and all the other machinery.

An animation for computer science presenting a steampunk robot in a factory. I really like the sound design and all the sound effects.

Change of colour

I placed a different colour behind the animation and I will get feedbacks from teachers and friends to find out which of the two colours are working better.

I inserted lines and cogs behind for the animation to become richer, but I am a bit worried about it because it may distruct the eye of the viewer. Also, I am not sure that the customer will get the message clearly so more actions need to be taken (in sound)

Animating in After Effects

I imported all my designs in After Effects and animated them. I tried to use a lot of camera movements to make it more interesting. The movement from scene to scene is working perfectly fine.

Some of the designs have various colours, this is because I am trying to get their shape first with the pen tool and  then add their normal colours and patterns.

Process:

I have imported all my designs in the software. Each design seperatelygiving me the flexibility to move them around. I added a solid background, same as the website’s background. Next, I added two new layers, first a camera and second a null object. The null object helped me to move the camera smoothly, and in the direction I wanted. All the tubes are becoming visible as the camera moves. It’s a technique I learned online by using the pen tool and adding an effect named write-on.
